Do’s & Don’ts in Kenya
- DO's:
- Respect local culture – Greet people with a smile and a handshake.
- Dress modestly in towns and villages.
- Bargain politely in markets but be respectful.
- Tip your guides & hotel staff (10-15% is appreciated).
- Ask permission before taking photos of people.
- Follow park rules – stay in vehicles during game drives.
- Carry small KES notes for tips and local purchases.
- DON’Ts:
- Don’t carry plastic bags – Kenya has banned them.
- Don’t feed or touch wildlife – It’s dangerous & against park rules.
- Don’t drink tap water – Stick to bottled or filtered water.
- Don’t engage in public displays of affection – Considered inappropriate in some places.
- Don’t walk alone at night – Use taxis or hotel transfers for safety.
- Don’t litter – Keep national parks clean.

- Time Zone: East Africa Time (EAT), GMT +3.
- Internet & SIM Cards: Buy a local Safaricom or Airtel SIM card for cheap data.
- Driving: Left-hand drive; hire a driver for safaris instead of self-driving.
